Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier will defend their title belts at UFC 220: Miocic vs. Ngannou on Saturday. The card, from TD Garden in Boston, Mass., is headlined by Miocic’s Heavyweight Championship defense against Francis Ngannou. Both are heavy-handed strikers with excellent knockout power.
In the co-main event, Cormier will defend the Light Heavyweight belt against Volkan Oezdemir.
The card will begin with UFC Fight Pass prelims at 6:30 p.m. ET, will continue with more prelims on Fox Sports 1 at 8 p.m. and will conclude with the pay-per-view main card beginning at 10 p.m. Live streaming can be had via Fight Pass, the UFC YouTube channel, UFC.TV and more.
In recent years, the heavyweight belt has changed hands quite a bit, though Miocic has held onto it through two defenses thus far. He has knockouts against Mark Hunt, Andrei Arlovski, Fabricio Werdum (for the title), Alistair Overeem (first defense) and Junior dos Santos (second defense).
Now he has to face Ngannou, a fearsome opponent who scored knockouts over Arlovski and Overeem in his last two bouts. Ngannou is 11-1 as a professional, and his knockout of Overeem was one of the biggest the sport has seen.
Cormier lost the title in his last bout against Jon Jones, but the fight was ruled a no-contest when Jones failed a drug test. The title reverted back to Cormier, who hast the tough Oezdemir to get by. Oezdemir earned the title bout with a knockout of Jimi Manuwa at UFC 214.
