Justin Gaethje was a perfect 18-0 as a professional before taking a knockout loss to Eddie Alvarez at UFC 218. Gaethje will try to get back in the win column facing Dustin Poirier Saturday night in the main event of UFC Fight Night in Arizona.
Gaethje is a +110 underdog on the UFC odds in Glendale at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The 29-year-old lightweight was an undefeated main-eventer in the WSOF, but with a 1-1 record in his first two fights in the UFC, he still has plenty to prove in this organization. Avoiding a losing streak with an upset win over Dustin Poirier would be a great place to start.
Despite being the same age as Gaethje, Poirier is a UFC vet that has been with the organization since 2011. In the main event of UFC Fight Night 120 last year, Poirier picked up a submission win over Anthony Pettis to improve to 6-1 over his last seven bouts. A win on Saturday would solidify Poirier’s spot as one of the top five fighters in this weight division and set him up for some bigger opportunities in the near future. Poirier is a -140 favorite to win this fight.
Alex Oliveira had a four-fight winning streak snapped at UFC 218 when he suffered a knockout loss to Yancy Madeiros. The 30-year-old Brazilian welterweight can get back on track with a win as a -200 favorite against the reeling Carlos Condit (+160) on Saturday. Condit owned a professional record of 28-6 including a 5-1 record in the UFC back in 2012, but the 33-year-old has lost six of his last eight fights and each of his last three. He will be looking for his first win since May 30, 2015 on Saturday.
Rounding out the top of the card at UFC on Fox 29 are Israel Adesanya (-275) vs. Marvin Vettori (+215), Michelle Waterson (+100) vs. Cortney Casey (-130) and Antonio Carlos Junior (-270) vs. Tim Boetsch (+210).
Israel Adesanya is a 28-year-old Nigerian middleweight that owns a perfect 12-0 record as a professional with all 12 of his wins coming by way of knockout. In his UFC debut at UFC 221 in February, Adesanya knocked out Rob Wilkinson in the second round.
