The UFC put on an exclusive Fight Pass card from the O2 Arena in London, England on Saturday, featuring a main event bout between heavyweights Fabricio Werdum and Alexander Volkov.
The fight went into the fourth round, with Werdum controlling a lot of the action early with his jiu-jitsu, but Volkov eventually dropped Werdum with an uppercut. He followed it up with some ground strikes, and the referee stepped in to stop the fight, giving Volkov his 30th career win, his sixth in a row.
The first round of the main event saw Werdum secure an early takedown and he spent most of the round on top. When he did let Volkov get to his feet, he ate a knee to the face and a big right uppercut. Werdum had some swelling after the strikes, but the round was still his.
Volkov slowly did some damage over the next few rounds and Werdum, unable to lock in a submission, eventually succumbed.
In the co-main event, Jan Blachowicz faced Jimi Manuwa in the light heavyweight division. Manuwa was favored by many, but Blachowicz landed a nice few shots that dropped Manuwa with about two minutes to go in the first round. Blachowicz swarmed, but Manuwa was able to recover and get through the first.
In the second round, Manuwa seemed sufficiently recovered, and he started pushing Blachowicz back. In the final 30 seconds, Manuwa landed a big head kick that staggered Blachowicz. With more time remaining, Manuwa might have earned the finish, but it went to a third round. The third round saw more of the same, with both fighters tired and getting their shots in.
Blachowicz wound up taking the victory, via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27).
To open the main card, welterweight Leon Edwards secured his fifth consecutive win in the UFC with a TKO over Peter Sobotta as time expired. After that, Tom Duquesnoy secured his 16th career win with a unanimous decision win over Terrion Ware.
There were four submissions, one knockout and one split decision on the undercard. The submissions were a pair of rear-naked chokes (Charles Byrd over John Phillips and Dmitriy Sosnovskiy over Mark Godbeer), a triangle choke (Paul Craig over Magomed Ankalaev) and a gillotine choke (Danny Henry over Hakeem Dawodu).
